MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. – Cedar Point Pier, a Mobile County Park, will reopen Friday, Oct. 3, at 5 p.m. after a period of construction to enhance accessibility, safety, and resiliency at this popular public pier.

Fishing at Cedar Point Pier remains free. A saltwater fishing license is not required for Alabama residents. The Pier will be open for fishing 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except Christmas Day. Anyone fishing Cedar Point Pier should bring their own bait and tackle.

“We’re excited to reopen Cedar Point Pier with enhancements that make it more accessible and more resilient,” said District 3 Commissioner Randall Dueitt. “It’s an investment in both recreation and coastal protection.”

The $1 million project included:

  • Shoreline stabilization with enhanced protection to guard against erosion and improve resiliency.
  • Improved, ADA-compliant pier access with a new deck and canopy cover between the office and bathroom trailers, an access ramp from the parking area, and a walkway from the deck to the existing pier.
  • New concrete parking pads, Causeway driveway turnouts, and utility upgrades.

Cedar Point Pier has been closed since March for repairs and accessibility upgrades. The construction closure schedule was dependent on permitting and funding availability, which determined the timing of the work. The Pier was briefly opened during the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo in July. Some work will be completed after Cedar Point Pier is reopened.

Funding for the upgrades was provided through the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA).

Construction was performed by Gillis Construction, with engineering and project management by Moffatt & Nichol.
