MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — District 2 Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson became the second recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award by the City of Semmes for her longstanding contributions to the city's growth, public facilities, services, and partnership.
Semmes Mayor Brandon Van Hook presented the award during the 2026 Semmes State of the City/County Breakfast, citing Commissioner Hudson's support for the community since before its incorporation and her continued efforts to improve the quality of life in Semmes by securing resources for community facilities, recreation and public safety. “There are people who spend their careers seeking recognition. And then there are people who spend their careers earning it without ever asking for it,” Van Hook said. “Today, we have the privilege of honoring someone who has spent decades doing exactly that.”
Van Hook cited some of Hudson's contributions to the City of Semmes, including:
- Senior services and recreation: Spearheading the purchase and renovation of property for the Semmes Senior Center, which opened in 2013, and supporting its subsequent expansion and recreational amenities, including a walking and fitness trail.
- Community facilities: Championing the improvements at the Semmes Community Center and supporting the continued operations of the Semmes Regional Library and other public facilities.
- Public safety: Helping secure resources for the Semmes Fire Training Tower and other public safety improvements.
Van Hook also recognized Hudson's influence beyond county projects, particularly her mentorship of local leaders.
“Your dedication has helped shape the Semmes we know today, and your legacy will remain part of this community for generations to come,” he said. “You've not only helped make Semmes a better city. You've helped make me a better Mayor.”
Commissioner Connie Hudson has represented District 2 on the Mobile County Commission since 2010 and previously served nine years on the Mobile City Council. Throughout her public service career, she has championed public safety and services, economic development, infrastructure improvements, parks and recreation, senior services and quality-of-life initiatives. She serves on numerous boards and organizations supporting regional growth and community development.
