Homeownership Program Information Sessions Well-Attended

Posted on: Jun 20th, 2025 | Press ReleasesFeatured News

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. – Mobile County's new Homeownership Down Payment Assistance (HDPA) Program started strong with initial information sessions drawing significant community interest. Designed to help residents affected by Hurricanes Sally and Zeta in 2020 and promote affordable homeownership, the program is funded through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).

Initial sessions held Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Mobile Government Plaza, including one for housing professionals and another for the public, both saw enthusiastic engagement.

The HDPA Program offers up to $50,000 in down payment assistance for qualified individuals and households looking to buy a single-family home in designated areas within Mobile County. It prioritizes low- and moderate-income (LMI)homeowners and renters affected by the 2020 hurricanes, but also encourages those on the path to homeownership to apply. To qualify, household income must be 120% or less of the current median family income for Mobile County, with a minimum assistance amount of $1,000.

The program is funded by Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds awarded to Mobile County through ADECA and the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), with final review and approval from ADECA pending.
