Cedar Point Pier Improvements Construction Contract Awarded

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. – The Mobile County Commission awarded a contract to improve Cedar Point Pier at its regular meeting on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025.

The approximately $1 million contract was awarded to Gillis Construction, Inc. and includes the following:

  • Improved, ADA-compliant pier access including a new deck with canopy cover between the office/bathroom trailers, an access ramp from the parking area, and a walkway from the deck to the existing pier.
  • New concrete parking pads, Causeway driveway turnouts, and utility upgrades
  • Upgrading deteriorating shoreline with enhanced protection for improved resiliency

With more than 100,000 visits in 2024, Cedar Point Pier is a popular 24-hour fishing spot in south Mobile County (18250 Dauphin Island Parkway in Coden). No saltwater fishing license is required for Alabama residents to fish from Cedar Point Pier.

Cedar Point Pier will be closed for safety for approximately four months during these upgrades. Notice will be provided prior to construction commencing. 

Mobile County District 3 Commissioner Randall Dueitt said: "We know how much Cedar Point Pier means to our residents and visitors, and that’s why we’re making this investment. These improvements will not only make the pier more accessible but also strengthen its long-term sustainability. We appreciate everyone’s patience during construction and look forward to welcoming the community back to an even better Cedar Point Pier." 

This construction effort is funded in part through Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA). This project is also being funded in part through Mobile County Commission’s federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) allocation, received in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which Commissioners are aiming toward five goals, including improving public facilities and infrastructure.
