Cedar Point Pier Closing for Construction

Posted on: Feb 27th, 2025 | AnnouncementsPress ReleasesFeatured News

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. -- Mobile County’s Cedar Point Pier will be closed to the public for approximately four months beginning Wednesday, March 5, at 7 a.m. for construction to make the park more resilient and accessible.

Planned improvements to Cedar Point Pier include:

  • Improved, ADA-compliant pier access including a new deck with canopy cover between the office/bathroom trailers, an access ramp from the parking area, and a walkway from the deck to the existing pier.
  • New concrete parking pads, Causeway driveway turnouts, and utility upgrades.
  • Upgrading deteriorating shoreline with enhanced protection for improved resiliency.

The Mobile County Commission awarded the he approximately $1 million construction contract to Gillis Construction on Feb. 10, 2025. Engineering and construction management for this project are by Moffatt & Nichol.  Funding for Cedar Point Pier upgrades is through the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA), and  the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA).

Why now? The timing for this construction closure depended upon external factors, such as permitting and funding availability.
