What is GOMESA?
The Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006 (GOMESA) directs a share of federal offshore oil and gas revenues to the Gulf producing states (Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas). These funds can only be used for projects that protect coastal resources and benefit the public, such as environmental restoration, water quality improvements, storm protection, and expanding public access for recreation and education.
