MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — The Mobile County Commission approved an agreement with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources at its regular meeting of Jan. 26, 2026, to accept a $2 million State GOMESA grant for improvements at the River Delta Marina & Campground. No local match is required.

The funding will support engineering, design, and construction for enhancements that improve access, safety, and visitor experience at the marina and campground, which provides public access to the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, one of the most ecologically diverse river systems in the country.

Planned improvements include upgrades to the existing boardwalk, removal of derelict vessels from surrounding waters, roadway improvements, new signage, new fencing in select campground areas, and targeted landscaping.

The project follows a recently completed master plan funded by Mobile County GOMESA dollars to guide long-term improvements and responsible stewardship of the site.

“This State GOMESA grant allows us to move from planning to implementation at River Delta Marina & Campground. Because it requires no local match, Mobile County can make meaningful improvements while being good stewards of both financial resources and the Mobile-Tensaw Delta,” said District 1 Commissioner Merceria Ludgood.

The $2 million award was among the State GOMESA-funded projects announced by Kay Ivey in the fall of 2025. The Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006 (GOMESA) directs offshore energy revenues to coastal restoration, conservation, and public access to water projects.

The Commission’s action authorizes acceptance of the grant and allows the County to move forward with project development. Construction timelines will be announced following completion of design and permitting.
