SPECIAL SHOPPING DAY FOR SHELTER DOG

Posted on: Dec 22nd, 2014 | Announcements

While no dogs want to be left behind at shelters on Christmas, at least it will be a special day for those at the Mobile County Animal Shelter after a shelter dog goes on its first shopping trip for toys at B&B Pet Store Wednesday. Shelter employees and one special canine will go toy shopping at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 24, thanks to $50 in donations raised by Spring Hill College students and a matching donation and discount by B&B Pet Store. That means lots of toys for pups and adult dogs at the shelter on Christmas. ?It?s great to have so much community support for the animals,? said Elizabeth Jones, the shelter?s animal placement specialist, who will be taking a shelter canine on Wednesday?s shopping excursion. The $50 contribution from Spring Hill College was a thank you from the students there after several shelter puppies from the county were brought on campus two weeks ago during finals as part of a stree-relief event for students. The event was sponsored by the student government and proved a big hit with more than 100 students in attendance. The Mobile County Animal Shelter takes in more animals than any shelter in the area. By law, it must pick up all stray dogs in its jurisdiction, which number in the thousands every year. Anyone interested in adopting an animal can visit the shelter at 7665 Howells Ferry Road or may view them online at www.mobilecountyanimals.com. ?Shelter animals make wonderful companions,? Jones noted. ?We hope the public will consider adoption when they are looking for a pet.?
