Sollie Road Opens Today

The Sollie Road bridge over Second Creek, between Cottage Hill Road and Isle of Palms subdivision, will open to traffic at 2 p.m. today. The road closed September 30 after rains drenched the area and compromised the abutment of the bridge. Mobile County Public Works officials had been checking bridges and roads during the torrential rains and had closed the bridge after identifying structural problems caused by the rainstorm. Crews worked quickly to excavate the bridge abutment and rebuild it, finishing work two weeks ahead of schedule.
