Semmes Library Marks One Year Anniversary

The Semmes Library has much to celebrate, so why not throw a party! After being open for only one year, 95,196 visitors have entered the doors of the library and 171,059 items have circulated from that branch. So to mark this milestone, the Semmes Library Committee will host a first year birthday party at the branch from 6 p.m. to7:30 p.m., on Thursday, January 28 at 9150 Moffett Road. ?Mobile Public Library has been pleased with the enthusiastic response from the Semmes community,? said Amber Guy, Public Relations Officer for the Mobile Public Library. ?We plan on being a part of the community for years to come.? Since its inception, the Semmes Library has offered a bevy of activities for the public to enjoy, including a regular Story Time held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. Plans are also underway for Mother?s Day Brunch to garner donations for the library. ?We are absolutely thrilled,? said Terri Nelson of the Semmes Library Committee when describing the success of the library. ?We are proud of what this community was able to accomplish and the volume of people that utilize this facility is amazing.? ?I?m so proud of what the Semmes Community was able to accomplish? said Commissioner Stephen Nodine, who will be attending the celebration. He and the Mobile County Commission were instrumental in establishing the library. ?By having the library opened in Semmes, citizens in the rural areas now have access to computers and a large assortment of books. Overall I think the facility has motivated the citizens to build a better community.?
