Saltwater Pool, Ranger Station New To River Delta Park

Posted on: Jun 17th, 2010 | Announcements

Mobile County?s River Delta Park ? a 30- acre gateway to the area?s pristine Mobile-Tensaw Delta ? features a new swimming pool and ranger station that opened this week. ?Everyone in Mobile County owns a piece of one of the most beautiful natural settings in the world,? said Merceria Ludgood, Mobile County Commission president, about the River Delta Park. ?It?s one of our blessings to live here.? The north Mobile County park has a new L-shaped, Gunite swimming pool that is 38 feet long on each leg of the ?L? and 20 feet wide. The saltwater pool will open to park campers only. The ranger station is a 20 by 60 foot log cabin serving as an office and a store for snacks and bait. The building was designed for high energy efficiency with 8-inch logs, high efficiency air conditioning, and high-level insulation for the ceiling and windows. A steady stream of anglers launch from River Delta Park to fish the delta waters or, in winter, to hunt in the area. More than 1,400 boats launched from the park in April and more than 800 in May, delivering visitors into the unique ecosystem of the second largest inland river delta in the United States. Local officials expect the numbers to increase to include those fishermen that would normally be casting out in the Gulf. The River Delta marina has been awarded a Clean Harbor designation by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The campground contains full hook-up RV sites, tent sites, and four cabins. In addition to the swimming pool, the site includes a playground and a lake stocked with bluegill and bass, available to campers only. There is also a laundry and bathhouse centrally located within the campground. Free use of the boat launch is included for registered campers. The park is host to five major bass fishing tournaments each year. For more information on the park, visit the Mobile County Web site at www.mobilecountyal.gov and click on the Parks button. ###
