Political, Business Signage Banned on Public Property

As the political season gets underway, more signs are being posted on public rights-of-way in the county, which is unlawful and may result in the removal and disposal of those signs. A resolution passed by the Mobile County Commission in 2014 banned signs in rights-of-way because they compromise the safety and the aesthetics of the roads. County Environmental Enforcement officers and other road workers may remove and dispose of all such signs without giving notice to the signs owners and repeat offenders may be prosecuted. Mobile County officials are encouraging the public to remove these signs off public property, including the area between telephone poles. The ban covers all private signage, including personal, political and commercial signs.
