Open House Scheduled for Proposed Recycling Center

Posted on: Mar 6th, 2012 | Announcements

An informational open house on the proposed Mobile County Residential Recycling Drop-Off Center will be hosted by County Commission President Connie Hudson from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 8 at Church of the Redeemer, 7125 Hitt Road. Citizens may attend the informational meeting anytime throughout the two-hour period. The open house will provide citizens with information about the Recycling Center proposed to be built on the former Brewer Center property off Hitt Road between Cody and Schillinger Roads. As proposed, the Recycling Center will be an attractive, state-of-the-art, well-buffered facility, accepting only glass, paper, plastic and electronic items. It will include an on-site classroom to provide field-trip learning opportunities about recycling for students. The County plans to contract operations and management of the Center to Goodwill Easter Seals of the Gulf Coast, which will be responsible for operational costs. Joining Commissioner Hudson at the meeting will be Mobile County Environmental Services Director Bill Melton, staff from Mobile County Engineering and representatives from Driven Engineering Inc. and Goodwill Easter Seals. The Recycling Center is an eligible project for Coastal Impact Assistance Project federal funding and is on the approved list of federally authorized projects.
