Newly Elected Mayor & City Council of Semmes To Take Oath of Office

The City of Semmes? first mayor and council members will be sworn into office at 6:30 p.m., on Monday, June 6, 2011, at Semmes First Baptist Church, located at 4070 Wulff Road in Semmes. Probate Court Judge Don Davis will administer the oath of office and a small reception will follow the ceremony. The event is free and open to the public. On May 26, 2011 Mobile County Judge of Probate Don Davis announced that the mayor and members of the Semmes City Council had been determined. Only one person, Ms. Judith (Judy) Hale qualified for the office of mayor. Initially six persons qualified for the five member city council. However, one person withdrew their candidacy. Accordingly, there was no need to conduct an election for city council. The Court declared Judith (Judy) Hale as Mayor of Semmes, Alabama, and the following persons as members of the Semmes City Council: David R. Baker, Teresa A. Bonner, Mary Calhoun, Phillip C. Dodd and Jerry R. Shirey.
