Mobile County, Goodwill Get Environmental Award

Posted on: Apr 17th, 2015 | Announcements

The Mobile County Commission and Goodwill Easter Seals were joint recipients of the 9th Annual Community Partner Award from Partners for Environmental Progress (PEP). The award is granted each year to an organization or individual that has made a lasting impact on Coastal Alabama?s sustainability and resilience. This year?s award recognizes the work of the Mobile County Commission and Goodwill Easter Seals to create a public-private partnership for the newly opened Mobile County Recycling Center at 7450 Hitt Road. The County, by soliciting grant dollars, built the $3.2 million facility noted for its attractive brick building and extensive, low-impact designed groundwork and landscaping by Driven Engineering. Goodwill, a leader in recycling here for decades, is the operator of the facility and in the first four months of its operations, has increased business to more than 1,900 cars a week and has recycled close to 700,000 pounds of materials. The award was presented Thursday night at the annual PEP meeting held at the Five Rivers Delta Center. ###
