Mobile County Finishes Cody Road Upgrade

Posted on: Aug 3rd, 2011 | Announcements

It?s smooth riding today on a new three-lane section of Cody Road that is expected to be completed within the next two weeks. ?This project frees up the flow of traffic from Airport Boulevard to Cottage Hill Road where we have experienced the most congestion,? said Mobile County Commission president Connie Hudson. ?It will make life easier for drivers traveling that route.? The $3.9 million project funds a turn lane, shoulder improvements, drainage, and new surfaces along the stretch of Cody from Pine Run Drive to Cottage Hill Road, completing the three-lane roadway that starts at Airport. The project is under budget and well ahead of the December deadline. Funds for the road improvement come from the Mobile County Pay-As-You-Go Program. The unique funding program features a method of financing road improvements that allows the county to pay for road and bridge improvements with no new taxes and no borrowed money. ?Even in tougher economic times, we have a reliable funding source for necessary infrastructure programs,? said Mobile County Commissioner Mike Dean about the Pay-As-You-Go Program. The 2.6 miles of road improvement work on Cody Road started in April of last year. The contractor is Hosea Weaver and Sons Inc. ?We continue to make improvements as necessary to handle the growth we are experiencing in our county,? said Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood.
