Mobile County EMA: Cold-weather Event of Nov. 9-12 Totals and Thanks

MOBILE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY – Multiple organizations in Mobile County came together to shelter those in need during the potentially life-threatening cold weather event of Nov. 9 to 12, 2025.

 

Over three evenings, 401 people were sheltered, more than 828 meals were served, and 58 volunteer hours were donated during this coordinated sheltering effort.

 

Waterfront Rescue Mission coordinated shelter activity among these facilities:

  • Waterfront Rescue Mission
  • McKemmie Place
  • Salvation Army
  • Dauphinway United Methodist Church
  • Central Presbyterian Church

Mobile County Emergency Management Agency and the following supported the cold-weather shelter operations:

  • Dauphinway United Methodist and Central Presbyterian churches’ volunteers
  • 211 (United Way of Southwest Alabama/Lifelines Counseling Services)
  • Mobile County Animal Shelter 
  • Mobile County Health Department
  • Mobile County Department of Public Affairs
  • The Wave Transit Service
  • City of Mobile
  • City of Mobile Animal Services
  • Dumas Wesley Community Center
  • American Red Cross
  • HOPE For All Gulf Coast
  • Driftwood Housing
  • Alta Pointe
  • Rain Group 
  • Mercy Life 
  • Colors of Love

Those seeking shelter included adults and families with children who did not have shelter or heating substantial enough for below-40-degree weather, as well as those who are unhoused.  As a result of this sheltering effort, some of the people who sought shelter have been directed to services.
