Posted on: Sep 11th, 2012 | Announcements

Grand Bay residents gathered today to honor Mobile County Commissioner Mike Dean for his work in the community that has made it possible to provide services to those in need and a community center for the rural area in southwest Mobile County. At a luncheon ceremony, Dean was granted an honorary lifetime membership on the board of directors of the Citizens for a Better Grand Bay (CBGB). Board president Aleta Boudreaux said that Grand Bay is a more cohesive and independent community because of the efforts by Dean to build community infrastructure there. Dean was instrumental in building the new Grand Bay Senior and Community Center, along with the new Grand Bay Library and Museum. He also helped preserve and identify the historic site that once served as a schoolhouse for the African-American community living there. He also helped to establish senior programs for the community. ?I hope you realize how important the senior program is to our community,? said Kimon Brown, a member of the board of directors of Citizens for a Better Grand Bay (CBGB). He said his wife died as the new community center was being erected, and he had found a new home with new friends there. ###
