Mike Dean Gets State Education Award

Mobile County Commissioner Mike Dean today received a state award for completing the graduate program of the Alabama Local Government Institute. He completed more than 70 hours beyond the mandated 50 hours for county elected officials. The award was presented at the Alabama Local Government Institute annual luncheon at Auburn University. ?It?s been real valuable training for the job,? Dean said. ?It?s been a long educational process that?s given me a lot of background in the matters that are important to local government like economic development, hurricane preparedness, the legislative process. It makes you better educated to do the work, rather than having to rely on someone else to tell you what to do.? The commissioner, who will leave office this year after having been re-elected a record three times, joins an elite group of county elected officials who have taken more than the state?s mandated 50 hours of classwork.
