MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — Ten Love Your Community teams were recognized at the Love Your Community Volunteer Celebration Nov. 8, 2025, with a total of $12,000 in beautification grants earned through time-banked volunteer service hours.

“We are so proud of all the work these teams have put into cleaning up our community and keeping litter out of waterways,” said Commissioner Connie Hudson, who spearheads Mobile County Commission’s Love Your Community effort.

Since the program’s relaunch in 2021, more than 250 teams have earned more than $60,000 in grants through the LYC Time Bank. Teams earn grant funding by logging volunteer hours tied to litter pickup, beautification, recycling, and similar environmental service efforts in public spaces.

Funded by the Mobile County Commission, LYC is operated in partnership with Keep Mobile Beautiful and Clean Water Future. Program funding is supported in part by the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA).

Grants were awarded to the following teams:

  • $1,500 grants (145 service hours)
    • Lady Litter Gitters
    • Ladies Against Litter
    • Inifinite Opportunities
    • Peninsula of Mobile
    • Mobile Japanese Gardens
    • Friends of Fowl River
    • Share the Beach Litter Patrol

  • $500 grants (50 service hours)
    • Loving Litter Pick Up

The award-winning Love Your Community program originally launched in 2018 to engage residents in tackling the community’s litter problem and promoting a cleaner, healthier Mobile County. More than 65 teams and 600 volunteers were involved with the effort pre-pandemic, but participation slowed during COVID-19. The program relaunched on Earth Day 2021 with the time-banking incentive model.
