Grand Bay Gets Chance To Sweep Clean

Posted on: Mar 5th, 2010 | Announcements

Mobile County will haul of a couple mountains of refuse from local residents of Grand Bay and nearby communities at Operation Clean Sweep set for 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at the old Irvington landfill off Half Mile Road. There is no charge for participation. The annual Clean Sweep effort offers residents in Grand Bay, Irvington and St. Elmo a chance to consolidate their messes and give it to Mobile County for hauling to a local landfill. Some 350 to 400 residents have participated in the past. The county will accept most items except hazardous material, tires, pressure tanks and firearms. There will be a crew at the site to help residents unload vehicles. Two boom trucks will be working simultaneously to load the materials onto dump trucks for disposal at another site. ?We hope that residents will utilize this opportunity to clean up their yards and neighborhoods,? said Mobile County Commission president Merceria Ludgood. The Mobile County Environmental Enforcement Department invites citizens to sign up for a Clean Sweep effort in their neighborhood by calling 574-STOP (7867). ###
