Got Clutter? Fall Operation Clean Sweep Dates Set

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. -- Ready to clear out the garage, clean up the yard, or finally get rid of that old mattress or broken appliance? Now is the time to start preparing for Mobile County’s fall Operation Clean Sweep events.

Mobile County residents will have four opportunities this fall to dispose of unwanted household items and yard debris for FREE through Operation Clean Sweep.

Electronics, scrap metal, and tires collected at the events are recycled, and other accepted materials are properly disposed of, helping reduce illegal dumping and keep litter off roadsides and out of local waterways.

Mobile County’s Department of Environmental Enforcement will host the events from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on these four Saturdays at locations throughout the County:

Sept. 26: 7195 Half Mile Road, Irvington AL 36544
Oct. 24: 1113 Hubert Pierce Road, Mobile AL 36608
Nov. 7: 12740 Highway 43 N., Axis AL 36505
Dec. 5: 7195 Half Mile Road, Irvington AL 36544

During eight Operation Clean Sweep events last fall and this spring, Mobile County residents brought in 303,440 pounds of scrap metal, 5361 tires and 80,000 pounds of electronics for recycling, along with more than 1.5 million pounds of solid waste for proper disposal.

“Operation Clean Sweep gives residents a convenient way to dispose of unwanted materials responsibly while helping keep litter off our roadsides and out of our waterways,” said Mobile County Commission President Connie Hudson. “It’s a practical service that helps protect our communities and Mobile County’s natural resources.”

Residents can start preparing now by setting aside old furniture, mattresses, appliances, household items, yard debris, electronics, scrap metal, and up to 10 tires. Proof of Mobile County residency is required, and only one load per household is accepted. Businesses, dump trailers, and hazardous waste are not allowed.

Drivers participating in Operation Clean Sweeps should secure loads with a tarp, bungee cords, or netting for safety before traveling and to keep debris from becoming roadway litter.
