County Urges Citizens to Sign Up for Emergency Notifications

Posted on: May 31st, 2013 | Announcements

As the hurricane season approaches, the Mobile County Commission wants to remind residents that they can sign up for phone, text and email notifications about local emergencies through the county?s First Call Emergency Notification System. The system is used strictly for emergency alerts and nothing else. Local public safety agencies will activate the system to alert residents to health and safety hazards, including emergency weather situations. The system, if necessary, is capable of targeted limited geographical areas deemed to be in the path of a designated health or safety threat. Individuals may sign up for notifications by going to the county?s home page at www.mobilecountyal.gov and then clicking on the First Call button. It takes only minutes to fill out the form and designate what kind of alerts you want. The Mobile County Commission also urges residents to take necessary steps to prepare for the hurricane season, which runs from June through November. For local information on preparedness please go to the Mobile County Emergency Management Agency website at http://www.mcema.net/. For general information about hurricanes and for advice on preparations for storms, go to www.ready.gov/hurricanes.
