Brooks Park Gets Upgrade with Mobile County Help

The Mobile County Commission this week approved a $25,000 contract with the city of Chickasaw to upgrade the 16-acre Brooks Park with extended boardwalks, a new pier, and other amenities. ?It?s fantastic to hear the news,? said Sam Rawls, Chickasaw public works director. ?It?s been an ongoing project for three years and we are looking forward to getting this complete.? The money, provided from Commissioner Merceria Ludgood?s District One funds, will allow Chickasaw to extend a boardwalk around the wetlands of Chickasabogue Creek, which flows through the park. The boardwalk will tie into a system of nature paths throughout the park. The money also will fund a 50-foot fishing pier and construction of a pavilion with benches near the popular fishing site. The scenic park also provides a landing for boat launches which makes it one of only two public parks providing access directly into the Mobile Tensaw River Delta. The other park is River Delta Marina, owned by Mobile County. In May 2008, the Mobile County Commission provided $12,150 in District One funds to help get the upgrades underway. That allocation provided for park surveys. ###
