The night life of Downtown Mobile will feature some furry creatures from the Mobile County Animal Shelter. Tonight, for the first time ever the Mobile County Animal Shelter will bring shelter pets to the LODA ArtWalk tonight. These adoptable creatures will be on display in the 200 block of Dauphin Street. While enjoying the downtown festivities the public can take part in this adoption event. The shelter, located at 7665 Howell?s Ferry Road, is competing in the $100,000 challenge sponsored by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Rachel Ray. MCAS has a goal of 1,000 lives saved before August 31st and is asking the public to Opt-to-Adopt! Contest winners can earn anywhere from $5000 to $100,000 in grant money from the ASPCA. The county will use winnings to buy a transportation adoption trailer that will allow the county to travel and hold adoption events throughout Mobile County. Other projects would include upgrading the kennels and developing and implementing a microchip program for the shelter. ###
