Mobile County Public Works is working on major County routes where there are icy patches. Crews are still plowing off as much ice as possible and placing sand to help with traction and thawing as temperatures warm today.

MOBILE COUNTY ANNOUNCEMENT • Wednesday, Jan. 22 @ 3:20 p.m.

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. – Please stay off roadways unless travel is unavoidable.

The Travel Advisory issued by Mobile County on Jan. 21 remains in effect until further notice. Wind chills remain dangerously low and temperatures are not expected to stay above freezing long enough to prevent the melting snow from quickly refreezing as dangerous ice. This makes driving conditions hazardous, particularly this evening through the morning hours.

Mobile County Public Works crews have been working today to remove snow from major thoroughfares to help speed up the melting process, however, there remain several areas with icy conditions, which are treacherous to drive. These conditions are expected to get worse through the night and early morning hours when temperatures are below freezing.

The continued danger is that lingering moisture will refreeze quickly, especially shady spots in roadways or areas of roads that hold moisture.
