Angels? Arms Feeds Rescued Animals

Posted on: Dec 21st, 2012 | Announcements

Working quietly behind the scenes, the rescue group Angels? Arms Animal Welfare Connection delivered more than 100,000 pounds of pet food in the last year to agencies like the Mobile County Animal Shelter, knowing that the program would give shelters more money to get their abandoned animals adopted. Since its founding in November of 2011, the ?Food to the Rescues? program provided 24,827 pounds of pet food to the Mobile County Animal Shelter. In addition, the program volunteers worked tirelessly to help the county place animals by finding homes, fostering, and making essential transport arrangements for adoptions. ?Angel?s Arms is a group of devoted individuals who take on an incredible workload and make a difference every day in the lives of shelter animals,? said Mobile County Commission president Merceria Ludgood. Food to the Rescues saved the County of Mobile about $18,000 in its first year. These savings were diverted to other essential programs, such as spaying and neutering, which helps control the animal population. It also helped pay for veterinarian services required for equine investigations involving abused or neglected horses. Angel?s Arms also has responded to organizations called to animal abuse/neglect scenes, often providing support within the first critical hours of recovery for the sick and injured animals. Angels? Arms helped the county attend to malnourished horses at an investigation on Morgan Lane in the last year. According to Mary Ann Friedlander, head of Angels? Arms, the Food to the Rescues program has donated more than 3,000 pounds of pet food this last year to these types of incidents. County Commissioner Connie Hudson credits the group with saving untold numbers of animals. ?Our successes have to be shared with this group, which has done so much for the county?s shelter animals,? she said. Angel?s Arms is an affiliate of Rescue Bank, a national network of pet food distribution centers. The Rescue Bank Pet Food Distribution Program supports the pet rescue community with a network of regional affiliates, like Angels? Arms. Rescue Bank collects the manufacturer donations and its network redistributes them to qualified animal rescue groups. ?It?s obviously a mission of the heart,? said County Commissioner Jerry Carl about Angels? Arms. ?Added to that, it is an enterprising group of people who keep building their mission and extending their influence.?
