Golf Digest magazine names Shane Allen a top Alabama instructor

Posted on: Sep 19th, 2025 | Announcements

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. – Mobile County Commission’s Head Golf Pro, Shane Allen, PGA, has been named by Golf Digest magazine as one of the Best Teachers in Alabama 2026-2027.

Every two years, Golf Digest publishes its nationwide list of top golf instructors. State honorees are selected through a poll of thousands of leading instructors across the country. This marks Shane Allen’s fourth appearance on the prestigious list.

Only 17 Alabama golf instructors were included in the biennial listing, with almost two-thirds hailing from the Birmingham area.

Allen is helping oversee the construction of Mobile County’s new Cypress Creek Golf Course, which is expected to open in spring 2026. With more than 20 years of experience managing golf operations, player development, and facility growth, he has earned recognition throughout his career, including Gulf Coast Chapter Teacher of the Year and Assistant Pro of the Year.

“Being named one of Alabama’s top golf teachers shows what an asset Shane is to the sport,” said District 3 Commissioner Randall Dueitt. “As we look to Cypress Creek’s opening, the course, driving range, and practice area will set a new standard and inspire players of all ages, especially youth on middle and high school golf teams.

“I’m grateful to once again be named among Alabama’s top golf teachers by Golf Digest,” said Allen. “I’m incredibly proud of this new course, and I know it will raise the game in Mobile County, for seasoned players and for our next generation of golfers. Cypress Creek Golf Course will truly be a public resource that grows the sport locally.”

Cypress Creek Golf Course at Riviére du Chien Park is currently under construction. It is an 18-hole, Jerry Pate-designed course that is being built from the ground up and will include both a driving range and a dedicated youth golf practice area. Additional park amenities under construction include tennis/pickleball courts, parking, roadways, and an office/maintenance building. A clubhouse, playground, and more are planned for future phases.
