Airbus Commits to More Jobs in Mobile

Mobile County Commissioners announced new jobs for the area today. The announcement came at the Farnborough Air Show in England. Airbus will add up to 90 positions at its engineering center at Brookley Field, bringing the total number of employees there to 240. "It's another chapter in our great relationship with Airbus," said Mobile County Commissioner Mike Dean, who is attending the air show. Dean also expressed optimism over Mobile's chances to win the Air Force refueling contract after meeting today with top Airbus and EADS officials. "Everyone involved with the project is enthused and confident," said Dean. Dean met with Airbus CEO Tom Enders and Allan McArtor, chairman of Americas Airbus Inc. Airbus officials discussed details of the firm's recent bid and strategies to win the competition. Dean also met with ST Aerospace President Chang Cheow Teck. The company is one of Mobile's largest employers with almost 1,600 workers. "We will work with ST to grow their presence in Mobile even more," said Dean. "They?ve had an important role in our economy now for 20 years."
