Volunteer Opportunities

We are always in need of volunteers to assist in all areas at the Mobile County Animal Shelter. If you are over 19 years of age and would like to help us with any of the activities listed below, please come by the shelter during normal business hours and pick up a volunteer packet, or you may download an application here and schedule an interview by calling the shelter at 574-3647.

Your generous giving helps support the animals in our care.

Ways to donate

Ideas for toys and other items that can be made by students and youth groups include the following:

  • The no-sew cat beds and catnip toys on Caster would be very much appreciated by our cats. Best dimensions are: 17" long x 15" wide.  
    • Dog beds
    • Our dogs always appreciate homemade dog treats!
      • No-bake treat recipes
  • Sponsor the adoption of a dog or cat or financial donations.
  • Leave a legacy to the shelter through a will, living trust, retirement or insurance plan beneficiary designation, or other means.  For legacy giving, please contact your attorney or financial adviser to help you decide what is best for you.
  • We can use donations of food, treats, leashes, collars, towels, and blankets.

Dog Walking

Animals at our shelter need regular exercise and affection, just like we do! These are abandoned animals that are hungry for affection. Your efforts help them with socialization, which is critical in getting them adopted. If you have the time, please help our dogs who have more than enough time, alone.

Cat Socialization

Cats also need to become comfortable with human contact. All cat lovers are invited to assist in the socialization of our furry feline friends.

Dog Bathing

We need to get our critters clean and smart-looking for our visitors and you could make all the difference! Our dogs need regular bathing and would love to have you there fussing over them!

Special Events

We have special events frequently and need all the help we can get. Sometimes we have parties on-site at the shelter to bring in the public and show off our critters. We also do off-site adoptions and need help with them: either with transport or set up and, of course, with the event. The more volunteers we have, the more our community sets eyes on these special animals.

Photo Shoots

Who can resist the look of a pooch or a kitty in need of a good home? If you can help get those pictures, we can send them out into the community where their forever family is waiting. We've even got some fancy frocks if the occasion demands it!

Clean Kennels

Any help we can get in cleaning our kennels allows our staff more time for outreach and one-on-one guidance for our visitors. Help us to keep our pets in the best possible environment and make our kennels a welcoming place for visitors at all times.
