Foster Grandparent Program

Mission: To provide services to children and youth with exceptional needs.

Benefits to joining: Tax-free stipend, daily meal allowance, transportation allowance, insurance coverage.

Services provided by volunteers: Tutor students to improve academic skills; motivate and instill good behavior; reward good socialization habits; listen to and counsel each child/youth individually; serve as positive role model; mentor youth; help with reading abilities; care for babies and children with long-term illness; and assist children with mental and physical disabilities.

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program

Mission: To provide essential help at non-profit and health care agencies.

Benefits to joining: Free accident coverage, liability coverage and excess automobile coverage while participating in volunteer activities or while driving to or from your place of service; on a limited basis transportation may be provided for volunteers who do not drive and transportation reimbursement may be provided for those who could not otherwise volunteer.

Services provided by volunteers: Services vary. "We do almost everything," said Ms. Grodsky, executive director.

Senior Companion Program

Mission: To provide assistance and friendship to seniors who are homebound and to frail adults who are in day care centers.

Benefits to joining:

Services provided by volunteers: Helping others to maintain their highest level of independent living; preparing meals for clients; helping with grocery shopping; escorting to medical appointments; and assisting with day-to-day living tasks.
