About Love Your Community

WHAT IT IS

Love Your Community (LYC) is an on-going anti-litter program sponsored by the Mobile County Commission in partnership with Keep Mobile Beautiful, Inc., The Alabama Coastal Heritage Trust and Clean Water Future and is designed to encourage citizen involvement in community clean-up and beautification.

WHO SHOULD GET INVOLVED

The program utilizes teams of citizens as active participants and may consist of one to any number of individuals who are interested in volunteering to help address the overwhelming litter problems within our community. Typically, teams are comprised of neighborhood association groups, school and community service organizations, senior center teams, environmental groups, individuals who walk for exercise regularly or any individual or group interested in registering participation.

THE OBJECTIVE

The objective of the program is for each team to select a public space in a specific geographic location anywhere within Mobile County to adopt for the purpose of monitoring and removing litter. Locations may be adjacent to major or minor road thoroughfares, and include neighborhood common areas, rights-of-way or public spaces near businesses, churches or schools. Teams will then be responsible for monitoring and organizing litter pick-up and removal on an on-going basis at the selected location(s). It is the responsibility of each team to determine scheduling for clean-up activities based on the dates and times that are most convenient for team members.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

Once teams are registered, Love Your Community will provide clean-up supplies to the teams that include safety vests or T-shirts, gloves, litter grabbers, and trash bags.

REPORTING ACTIVITY

Those teams participating in TIME BANKING to earn grant funds for community projects are required to report their volunteer hours and provide picture documentation of their clean-up or other eligible activities on the Time-Banking Report Form.
