CIVIL RIGHTS & CULTURAL HERITAGE DISTRICT UPDATES & NEXT STEPS PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT MEETING

Jun 12th, 2025 5:30 PM-7:30 PM

Please attend an Updates & Next Steps Public Engagement Meeting for Mobile County’s Civil Rights & Cultural Heritage District Thursday, June 12 @ 5:30 p.m. at  Bishop State Community College's  Yvonne Kennedy Business Technology Center Auditorium.

This public engagement meeting provides an overview and status update of the project and kicks off a historical context study associated with the civil rights movement in Mobile, Alabama that adheres to National Park Service (NPS) guidelines and will provide source material for storytelling and interpretive elements of the district.

The goal of Mobile County's Civil Rights & Cultural Heritage District is to HONOR • PROTECT • RENEW an area important to local history centered on “The Avenue” (Mobile’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue corridor), with a focus on attracting both tourism dollars and additional investments.

The Master Plan for Mobile County’s Civil Rights & Cultural Heritage District and several of the plan’s early implementation projects are fueled by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) and Commission District funds.
