Journeyman printer, poet, and musician, Charles Boyington, a 19-year-old, was hanged for the murder of his critically ill friend. As he predicted would happen to prove his innocence, an oak tree grew from his gravesite in Mobile, Alabama. It still stands almost 200 years later. The Boyington Oak Festival will be held May 14 and 15, 2022, at Oakleigh House Museum.
The festival tells the story of Charles Boyington by visiting locations where he lived, worked, and was held prisoner. The festival also includes a special production of the play The Truth is in the Tree, written by Mary Palmer and directed by Dr. Thomas Rowell. Package Price for the festival is $50.00, includes:
