Mobile Opera will perform "Mozart and Salieri" by Nikoliai Rimsky-Korsokov, on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the Murphy High School Auditorium. Based on the Pushkin play that inspired the cinematic triumph "Amadeus," "Mozart and Salieri" depicts a bitter and jealous Salieri adoring Mozart's sublime music while despising its creator. Can true genius, so great that it rises above and drowns out the mediocrity of others, destroy art? Salieri rationalizes his desire to save art by ridding the world of Mozart. The opera is performed in French with English supertitles. For details and to purchase tickets, visit www.mobileopera.org/moz-sal.
