May 2nd, 2026 2:00 PM-4:00 PM
Step into an afternoon of style and tradition at the Hatitude Tea Party on Saturday, May 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Mobile Museum of Art. Inspired by the special exhibition "Timeless Hats," this gathering honors self-taught Mobile milliner Susie Mae Pugh-Williams (1949–2020). Her handcrafted hats, wraps and fascinators are more than accessories — they are “crowns” that embody a rich heritage of artistry and resilience. Enjoy tea, light refreshments, and the graceful sounds of a live harpist. There will be time to explore the exhibition and reflect on Williams’s remarkable work before visiting the curated bloom bar to assemble a custom bouquet to take home. Dr. Irma McClaurin will serve as emcee, providing insight into the deep cultural significance of the traditions being honored. Guests are encouraged to wear their most expressive headwear to fully embody their own “hatitude.” Prizes will be awarded for hats that express creativity, elegance and individuality. Admission is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. For more information, go to www.facebook.com/events/801385542532124.
