Gateway: From Graffiti to Gallery, an exclusive blockbuster exhibition that explores how graffiti influenced five intertwined artistic practices beyond the street level, will be featured from Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, through Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2027, at the Mobile Museum of Art. The museum is the first and only venue for this exhibition, which is presented in collaboration with Masterworks and Level & Co. Gallery.
From Jean-Michel Basquiat’s cryptic script to Keith Haring’s energetic subway drawings to Kenny Scharf’s pop surrealism to KAWS’ advertising interventions to Banksy’s political stencils, the exhibition creates a dialogue between the raw immediacy, public accessibility and cultural commentary that define these artists’ origins in graffiti. As their art moves from ephemeral public spaces to permanent collections, Gateway celebrates these artists’ relationship to an underrecognized movement that has made a lasting impact on contemporary art.
This exhibit is sponsored in part by the Mobile County Commission.
Admission to the museum is $12 for adults; FREE on Thursdays for Mobile County residents. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
