PERFORMANCE: TERRENCE SPIVEY-BLURRED UNIVERSALITY IN BLACKNESS (PART 2)

Jan 25th, 2025

Join Terrence Spivey for a performance of Our Land: Outta da Horse’s Mouth! This thought-provoking play continues Spivey’s exploration of Black identity, history, and culture, offering a rich and powerful theatrical experience. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at 3 p.m. at the Africatown Heritage House. Our Land: Outta da Horse’s Mouth! is a dramedy that follows a young Mabel Dennison, granddaughter to Lottie “Kanko” Dennison, one of the 110 Clotilda survivors, and South Carolina-born boat pilot, former slave, James Dennison. In the play, she shares her grandmother’s journey from Dahomey to her and her husband’s contributions as skilled entrepreneurs. Her knowledge evokes the grandparents into her storytelling with a historically blended, folksy humor and interaction with the audience.
