Mobile's own Excelsior Band, celebrating 142 years of performing in Mardi Gras parades and other events, will hold its inaugural fundraising event on Sunday, Nov. 16, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at Byrne Memorial Hall on the campus of Spring Hill College. The iconic band will perform, as well as The Jazz Studio, consisting of local student musicians in 6th through 12th grades. The mission of this event is to preserve the history of the Excelsior Band and ensure its future through The Jazz Studio so that its contribution to the Mobile community continues for the enjoyment of future generations.
