May 17th, 2026 2:00 PM-3:30 PM
The Historic Mobile Preservation Society's Historic Mobile Lecture Series will feature Clotilda descendant Darron Patterson speaking on "If Not Now, When?" on Sunday, May 17, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Cox-Deasy Cottage. This presentation explores a pivotal moment in American history and identity, reflecting on the nation’s evolution from a country that embraced the importation of enslaved people — including Patterson's great-grandfather, Kupollee, a Clotilda survivor — to the present day. It will challenge the audience to consider why the current path is unsustainable, how the legacy of the past continues to shape present realities and why the future direction of the country rests in the hands of its people. Admission for this event is FREE for HMPS members and $10 for non-members. Seating is limited.
