GULF COAST ETHNIC HERITAGE JAZZ FESTIVAL

The annual Gulf Coast Ethnic Heritage Jazz Festival will take place July 24-27, with two nights of live jazz performances on Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at The Temple Downtown. On Saturday, July 26, performers will include Tonya Boyd-Cannon of "The Voice," with Keep It Live; local favorites Roman Street; and a tribute to Quincy Jones by the Mobile Big Band Society featuring international legend Fred Wesley. On Sunday, July 27, Gina Rosario, Alvin King and The Fifth K'nection Jazz Band, and the Jukebox Brass Band will perform. Tickets are $25 per night.

Other Jazz Festival events include:

  • Thursday, July 24 at 6 p.m.: An Evening of Poetry, hosted by Huggy Bear da Poet at Historic Avenue Cultural Center, 564 Dr. MLK Drive, Mobile. Tickets are $10.
  • Friday, July 25 at 7 p.m.: Presentation of the Hosea London Jazz Music Education Award, featuring the Marcus Johnson Summer Jazz Camp Orchestra and Andrew Ayers and Friends, at The Temple Downtown. Admission is $40.
