Families can have an expressive, artistic experience together at Family Art on Thursdays (Oct. 16, Nov. 20 and Dec. 18) from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Mobile Museum of Art. The cost of each class is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Monthly themes include:
Oct. 16: Galaxy in a Box, inspired by the Glow Room
Each family creates a miniature galaxy inside a shadow box or recycled cardboard box using a mix of painting, crafting and glow-in-the-dark elements. Design planets, stars, comets and even alien life using different textures and materials. The project ends with a “blackout viewing” under UV or low lighting to reveal it.
Nov. 20: Under the Sea, inspired by the Sea Room
This class invites families to explore the colors, textures and mystery of the ocean through hands-on art-making. Craft sea life scenes using paint, mixed media and imagination together.
Dec. 18: Touch & Bloom, inspired by the Orange Room
In this hands-on workshop, families will use colorful, touchable materials to create 3D garden scenes. This is a playful, sensory-friendly art class where everyone can create and explore.
