Feb 21st, 2024 12:00 PM-4:00 PM
Enjoy a day getting to know your indigo vat with Aaron Sanders Head on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Mobile Museum of Art.
Aaron will share his knowledge of Indigo, a fascinating plant with a complex history, and Shibori, a Japanese manual resist technique for creating complex, unique patterns on fabric. Participants will first learn how to dye natural fiber goods with indigo and how to maintain vats for the longest-lasting color. Participants will then learn several resists and shibori techniques, with a concentration on folded, tied, and clamped resists.
The instructor will provide 1/2 yard of fabric per student for experimentation, but participants should bring their goods to dye. Goods from home should be made from natural fibers, and cellulose (cotton, linen) accepts color best. Pre-wash all fabric in hot water before the workshop.
Participants should wear old clothing that can be stained, including shoes, or bring an apron. Participants should bring a pair of rubber gloves with high sleeves, like dishwashing gloves.
The cost is $125 for members and $145 for non-members. For more information, please visit: www.mobilemuseumofart.com/event/exploring-indigo-and-shibori-with-aaron-sanders-head-2/?instance_id=7664
