The Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo, a Project of the Mobile Jaycees, will be held Friday, July 17, with a shotgun start at 5 a.m., through Sunday, July 19, when prizes will be awarded, on Dauphin Island. Founded in 1929, the event is the largest fishing tournament in the world, attracting more than 4,000 anglers and 100,000 spectators. The ADSFR is a three-day Captain’s Choice tournament and a Southern Kingfish Association (SKA) sanctioned event. The total awards package is valued at up to $1 million in cash and prizes and is anchored by a boat, motor and trailer packages. There are 33 categories, with prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in all categories plus Most Unusual Species and lionfish. One Master Angler is also awarded along with cash prizes for King Mackerel, Speckled Trout and Big Game jackpots. Tickets will be on sale starting Father's Day weekend.
