Mar 12th, 2026 - Apr 14th, 2026 · 9:45 AM-12:00 PM
A Dauphin Island Sea Lab educator will lead a walk through the maritime forest, then on to the dunes and beach in three different excursions on Thursday, March 2, Tuesday, March 24, and Tuesday, April 14, from 9:45 a.m. to noon, starting at the Alabama Aquarium. Learn about plants that Native Americans and colonists used and the benefits of an intact dune system. Along the way, spot many coastal animals, sometimes including osprey, alligators and dolphins. Dig for mole crabs that live in the surf zone and chase scuttling ghost crabs. Hand nets and critter containers will be provided to give participants an up-close look. The cost is $15 per person, per excursion. Space is limited, and reservations are required. For details, go to https://disl.yapsody.com/event/index/570886/BEACH-DUNE-AND-MARITIME-FOREST.
