April 21, 2017

The Mobile County Commission will kick-off its “Saving Our Pollinators” campaign by installing two “Butterfly Gardens” at two different locations at the same time on the same day. This event is scheduled for Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the following locations:

BUTTERFLY GARDEN#1:
Mobile County Recycling Center
7450 Hitt Rd, Mobile, AL 36695

BUTTERFLY GARDEN #2:
Mobile County River Delta Marina & Campground Welcome Center Building
2350 Dead Lake Marina Rd # 244, Creola, AL 36525

FREE packets of flower mix seeds will be handed out along with information on how to start a butterfly garden to help save the pollinators. If you are asking yourself, what are pollinators and why do they need saving? The answer is simple. Pollinators are butterflies, bees and even humming birds that fertilize plants, resulting in the formation of seeds and the fruit surrounding seeds. Humans and other animals rely on pollinators to produce fruits, nuts and vegetables.
